St. Simons Island, Georgia
Golf
Saint Simons Island has over ninety nine holes of golf. There are two public courses and four private courses on the Island. The public courses include The Hampton Club located on the north end of the Island and was ranked one of the nation’s top ten resort courses. The second public course, Sea Palms, boasts 27 holes of golf and includes a training facility with a driving range, chipping green, and a putting green. Private courses on Saint Simons Island include 36 holes of golf at the Sea Island Golf Club and 18 holes at the Saint Simons Island Club course.
Shopping
This bustling Island offers a variety of shopping venues to include: the Village and Pier area, Redfern Village, and the Shops at Sea Island. You are likely to find everything you need from casual boutiques and antique galleries to fine clothing stores. Also a variety of hand-made jewelry and accessories, beautiful art galleries, and souvenir shops speckle the Island. Book stores, grocery stores, pet stores, hardware stores can also be found on Saint Simons.
Dining
Seafood, ethnic food, casual dining, fast food, and fine dining, Saint Simons Island offers satisfaction to even the most particular pallet. Depending on your desired taste and atmosphere a wide variety of choices for dining are located on the island. A majority of the dining experiences available to you on the Island are individually owned. The number of family owned restaurants is just another trait that gives St. Simons a character of its own.
Biking and Walking Trails
Biking and walking trails cover most of St. Simons and are laid out amongst the massive oak trees which shade good portions of the trails. In the near future, the Land Trust plans to expand the walking trails on the Island by adding three additional miles of paths. The new trail will connect Neptune Park with Gascoigne Bluff and is scheduled to be complete later in 2008. This will give home owners at The Villas at Frederica River direct access to the pier and village by trail.
Fishing
Relaxing shore fishing and deep sea charter fishing are available to all fishermen who visit Saint Simons Island. Flounder, red fish, channel bass, whiting, tarpon, shark, and sea trout can be found and sometimes caught in this area. Several companies on the Island offer half day and full day chartered fishing trips. If you prefer to lead your own fishing excursion the Island also offers boat rentals. If you own your own boat St. Simons has three marinas that include: boat launching ramps, dry-stack storage, and wet slips.
Kayaking
There are numerous tours by kayak leading through the vast marshes of the Island. Kayaking trips provide the perfect way to view the wildlife that makes the marshes their home. Daily tours are offered however the weekend excursions make way for a more challenging journey.
Tennis
Saint Simons offers private and public tennis courts. The two public tennis courts are located in Mallory Park and Epworth Park. Twelve private courts can be found at Sea Palms Resort located in the middle of the Island with four additional courts at the King and Prince Resort.
Trolley Tours
If you are interested in learning about the Islands history, shops, and points of interest a trolley tour is offered everyday at 11:00 a.m. On this tour you will stop at twenty five points of interest while traveling over twenty miles on St. Simons. The tour begins beside the village pier and all of your unique stops will be seen from the 1930’s trolley you’ll be riding in.
